Use a CSV text file to specify site-specific settings

Use a CSVClosed Comma Separated Values text file to specify a device-specific settingCloseda local parameter that overrides a global parameter on one or multiple devices when you need to override a specific setting managed by a template. You would typically do this when you are creating a new template, though you can add a device-specific CSV text file to a template at any time. If you want to see the managed and unmanaged settings first before creating a CSV file, see View the managed, unmanaged, and device-specific settings in a template.

  1. In the template wizard, click the Settings tab if it is not already open.

  2. Click a settings group to see its settings (for example Network or System).

The list of settings displays. By default, all settings use Common ValueClosedUse this option when your devices share a global setting, which means that all devices in the group associated with the template use the same value you specify here..

  3. Determine the settings you want to be device specific.

  4. For the setting you need to override, ensure the checkbox is selected then choose one of the two options: Allow device specific settingsClosedUse this option when most of your devices share the same parameter for a setting, but one or more devices require a unique parameter. These unique parameters are defined in the CSV text file. In this instance, some cells in the column are left empty since those devices share the global setting.See Example | Configure global and site specific settings in a CSV text file. or Require device specific settingsClosedUse this option when every device requires a unique parameter for a particular setting. The unique parameters are defined in the CSV text file. In this instance, no cells in the column for the setting are left empty since every device requires a unique parameter.See Example | Configure global and site specific settings in a CSV text file..

  5. Click Home to return to the list of settings.

  6. Click Download and open the CSV text file.

Caution You may get errors if you edit your CSV text file in Excel and then try to upload it to the template. Digi recommends editing the CSV text file in a different spreadsheet editor. See Details about the CSV text file for more information.

  7. Edit and then save the changes you made to the CSV text file.

  8. Click Upload.

  9. In the file explorer window that opens, select the CSV text file, and then click Upload.

A confirmation message appears. The CSV text file is uploaded to the template.

You can continue to configure the template by clicking the Containers tab, if available, or the File System tab. Make sure to save your changes.
