About activation codes

An activation code is a unique electronic identifier provided by a cellular carrier that allows a device to download and install a digital carrier profile onto an eSIM. This code contains the information the device needs to contact the carrier's server and retrieve the correct carrier profile.

What they usually include

An activation code typically represents or contains:

  • SM-DP+ address (the carrier's profile download server)

  • Matching ID/Activation key (tells the server which profile belongs to which device)

This information can be delivered as a text string, a QR code, or a digital file. Once you have obtained codes from each carrier, you can individually or bulk add these codes to Digi Remote Manager. If you want to bulk upload activation codes to Digi Remote Manager, you may need to do some prep work to create and then format a CSV file.

Once they are uploaded, you can see a list on the Activation Codes tab or update their information, as needed. You can then use one of the two methods available to add a code to a device.

In simple terms

Activation codes are the instructions a device uses to download a eSIM carrier profile.

Why Digi devices use them

Digi devices use activation codes to securely download the digital carrier profile they need to connect to a cellular network through eSIM technology. Because there is no physical SIM card to insert, the activation code contains the details needed for the device to securely reach the carrier’s server and download its unique profile.
