About the eSIM bootstrap profile
An eSIM bootstrap profile is a cellular carrier profile pre-loaded onto an eSIM chip during manufacturing that provides the initial profile used by the device to establish a cellular connection for basic connectivity to a central cloud portal so it can receive configuration updates and have additional profiles pushed down to the eSIM. It's main purpose is to give the device just enough initial connectivity to make a cellular connection and establish communication with Digi Remote Manager. This connection is maintained until an activation code is assigned to the device, at which time the device downloads the long-term carrier profile(s) to which it has been assigned. This bootstrap profile:
-
Has a limited data plan.
-
Comes preloaded on the eSIM chip.
-
Is tied to the Digi 360 license for the device the eSIM is sold with. Meaning, the bootstrap profile will be enabled as long as the Digi 360 license for the device is active. If it expires, the device’s other downloaded profiles remain usable, and the bootstrap profile can still be selected, but the bootstrap profile will not be able to connect until renewed.
-
The Digi 360 license can be remotely activated, which then renews the bootstrap profile.
Tip To confirm whether a device is connected to Digi Remote Manager using an eSIM bootstrap profile, in the Devices list, find your device. In the Connection Type column, look for the phrase Limited Cellular.
