WAN bonding server options

The WAN Bonding server is the central endpoint that receives, reassembles, and forwards data traffic from Digi routers set up to use the WAN bonding service. When multiple WAN connections—such as cellular, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi—are combined on a Digi router, the server acts as the aggregation point that synchronizes packet delivery, maintains session integrity, and ensures smooth, high-speed connectivity to the destination network or internet. You can choose from three deployment options for this server: Digi-hosted, partner-hosted, or self-hosted.

  • Digi-managed: Provides a fully managed solution with simplified setup, automatic scaling, and high availability—ideal for customers who prefer minimal infrastructure management. Digi Professional Services can set up, manage, and maintain your WAN bonding server.

  • Partner-managed: Offers the same managed advantages but may provide regional presence, additional service-level agreements (SLAs), or integration with existing managed network services. Bondix Essential Cloud maintains a number of WAN bonding servers throughout the world, focused mainly on locations in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Contact them for WAN bonding hosting and configuration services.

Tip Bondix also offers the option of setting up a trial WAN bonding server for testing purposes.

  • Self-managed: Gives organizations complete control over configuration, security, and data handling, making it well suited for enterprise or government environments with strict compliance or performance requirements. Set up a WAN bonding server on physical hardware or a Virtual Private Server (VPS) in your local environment. For instructions to set up a self-hosted WAN bonding server, see Installation Bondix Server and Installation Instructions S.A.NE Server for Digi. The WAN bonding license key for setting up the self-hosted server is included with the WAN Bonding licenses you purchased. The WAN bonding license key can be found on the Subscriptions page in the WAN bonding card in Digi Remote Manager.

Each option delivers the same bonding functionality, allowing you to select the model that best aligns with your IT resources, security policies, and operational goals.
