Before you begin a cellular modem firmware update
Review the following considerations:
-
DAL OS firmware version
The cellular modem firmware methods for updating one or many routers vary based on the DAL OS firmware version running on those routers.

Device-specific user guides
Make sure to have your device-specific user guide handy as some of the procedures or information you may need are referenced there. Find the hyperlink for your router in the dropdown.
-
Verify network connectivity
Confirm the Digi device has a stable internet connection to download the firmware update.
-
SIM card
Ensure that there is a SIM card or the Digi CORE plug-in LTE modem in the device for cellular connection, or disable SIM failover. See Configure a Wireless Area Network (WWAN) topic in your DAL OS device-specific user guide.
-
Modem model
If you are not planning to use Digi Remote Manager to perform the modem firmware update remotely, you will need to know the model of the modem that is in or attached to your Digi device in order to download the proper modem firmware and perform the update locally.
-
Review firmware and software changes
To see the latest news and to understand the changes, improvements, and potential impacts of those changes, see the What's new in Digi Remote Manager and DAL OS, as well as the DAL OS release notes.
-
Backup the DAL OS router configuration
Save your current configuration settings on your device in case you need to restore settings after the update.
-
Schedule downtime
Plan the update at a time that minimizes disruption, as the device may reboot during the process.
-
Power and battery backup
Ensure the device has a reliable power source to prevent interruptions during the update.
-
User access and permissions
Verify you have the necessary administrative access to perform the update via the DAL OS web UI or Digi Remote Manager.
