About the Templates feature in Digi Remote Manager

A template is a file that defines a particular device configuration, which could include managed, unmanaged, and device-specific settings, files, and a specified firmware version. In Digi Remote Manager, a template can be used to:

  • Upgrade the firmware version of the devices and any attached peripheral modems

  • Update the settings or files

  • Deploy containers

You can specify whether you want the template to govern all the settings or some of them, when and at what frequency the devices should be scanned, as well as how you want these actions carried out, recurrence if the update fails, and other actions. You can also use a CSV text file to override global settings managed by the template with device-specific ones.

By using templates, you can quickly and efficiently update many devices at the same time, ensuring they all use the same configuration. Templates are particularly useful when managing large fleets of devices, as they save time and reduce the risk of human error during initial setup, firmware upgrades, or any other configuration changes. They can also help maintain compliance with organizational policies or industry regulations by ensuring that all devices adhere to the same standards.

Tip Digi recommends using templates for firmware upgrades and configuration changes, including changes to network, firewall, route, and firmware settings.
